Overcoming the Struggle of Comfort – Walking as a Peculiar People in a Peculiar Time

Comfort is easy. It’s familiar, predictable, and requires little effort. But as peculiar people, we are called to something greater. God is stretching us in this season, and growth doesn’t happen in comfort zones. Many of us feel resistance because our flesh wants comfort, but our spirit is being called to higher levels.

📖 1 Peter 2:9 – “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people; that you should show forth the praises of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.”

If you find yourself stuck, feeling stagnant, or struggling to step out of your comfort zone, here are practical ways to overcome that battle and fully embrace your calling.

1. Recognize Comfort as a False Sense of Security

📖 Isaiah 43:19 – “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

Staying where it’s comfortable feels safe, but it also prevents growth and new opportunities.

God doesn’t want you bound by fear of the unknown—He wants you to trust Him over your comfort.

Ask yourself: Am I staying here because I feel called to or because I’m afraid to move?

2. Embrace Discomfort as the Training Ground for Growth

📖 James 1:2-4 – “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”

No athlete trains without resistance. Growth requires stretching, endurance, and pressure.

Challenges aren’t punishments—they are preparation for your next level.

When you feel stretched, ask God what He’s teaching you instead of asking why it’s hard.

3. Move by Faith, Not by Feelings

📖 2 Corinthians 5:7 – “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”

Feelings fluctuate—one moment, you feel excited, the next, you feel fearful.

Faith requires stepping out before you feel ready because God’s calling is not about feelings—it’s about obedience.

If you wait until it feels comfortable, you’ll miss the moment of faith.

4. Identify What’s Holding You Back

📖 Hebrews 12:1 – “Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

What is keeping you in comfort? Fear? People’s opinions? Lack of confidence?

Make a list of the things that are anchoring you in place and ask God for the boldness to release them.

5. Take One Step Outside Your Comfort Zone Today

📖 Philippians 3:13-14 – “Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.”

Don’t wait for the perfect moment to move. Take one small step today.

Sign up for that class, have that conversation, apply for that opportunity, or simply start praying boldly for direction.

 Embrace the Stretching!

If this season feels uncomfortable, that’s a sign that God is growing you. Trust the process. You weren’t created to stay the same—you were created to rise!
