Trusting God’s Timing
Matthew 6:34
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
Why are you so worried about tomorrow? God has promised many of us great things that will be delivered into our lives at the appointed time. Yet, we often find ourselves looking at our present circumstances and questioning, "Did I hear God right? Is this promise even real?" We start to wonder because there’s no evidence of that promise manifesting in our current reality.
This morning, I was reminded of a promise God made to me, but I also felt the Holy Spirit whisper, “There will be problems there too.” It made me realize: Why are we worrying about the problems of tomorrow? Do you understand that God elevates us from season to season? The issues we once faced, we no longer face—but new challenges will arise as we grow.
The higher the promise, the greater the challenges that will accompany it. That’s why God takes His time with elevation and promotion.
The Story of Joseph: A Lesson in Trusting God's Timing
Let’s look at the story of Joseph. God gave Joseph a dream of greatness, a vision of authority and influence. But what Joseph didn’t know was the painful process that would precede the fulfillment of that dream.
Genesis 37:5-10 tells us about Joseph’s dream:
Joseph dreamt that his brothers' sheaves of grain bowed down to his sheaf, symbolizing his future position of power. But this dream led to jealousy and hatred. His brothers sold him into slavery. Joseph then endured false accusations and was thrown into prison. From age 17 to 30, Joseph’s life looked contrary to the dream God had given him. Thirteen years of slavery, imprisonment, and waiting—Joseph must have wondered, "How can this possibly lead to the promise God showed me?"
But God had already written Joseph’s story. In every season, God was preparing Joseph, giving him favor in Potiphar’s house, in the prison, and ultimately, before Pharaoh. Joseph’s faithfulness and connection to God allowed him to rise, even when the circumstances didn’t look like the dream.
Just like Joseph, you might be asking, "How will God’s promise come to pass when everything around me seems impossible?" But remember, God’s word never fails.
God's Promises Will Come to Pass
Numbers 23:19 says:
"God is not human, that he should lie, not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?"
No matter how impossible it may seem, God's promises are true. His ways are higher than ours, as Isaiah 55:8-9 reminds us:
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”
When God speaks a promise, it is certain. His word will accomplish its purpose.
Isaiah 55:11 reinforces this truth:
“So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Rest in God’s Timing
You may not see the evidence of God’s promise right now, but trust that He is working behind the scenes. He is preparing you, elevating you, and strengthening you for the next level. The problems of tomorrow will only be overcome by His grace, just as the challenges of today are.
Find contentment in your current season, knowing that God’s timing is perfect. Rest in Him, because no matter where you are on your journey, there will always be challenges—but God is more than enough in every season.
Be encouraged: your promise will come to pass at its appointed time, just like Joseph's. Trust God’s process, and let His peace guard your heart as you move forward in faith.
