Bible Study Along: 1 Samuel 28

The Danger of Desperation & Departing from God’s Voice

Key Scriptures

1 Samuel 28:6-7 (CSB):
“When Saul inquired of the Lord, the Lord did not answer him, either by dreams or by the Urim or by the prophets. Saul then said to his servants, ‘Find me a woman who is a medium, so I can go and consult her.’ His servants replied, ‘There is a woman at En-dor who is a medium.’”

Isaiah 8:19 (CSB):
“When they say to you, ‘Inquire of the mediums and the spiritists who chirp and mutter,’ shouldn’t a people inquire of their God? Should they inquire of the dead on behalf of the living?”

Galatians 6:7 (CSB):
“Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows he will also reap.”

Reflection Questions

Have I ever felt tempted to look for answers outside of God when He felt silent?

What practices or influences in my life could be considered “Endor moments” that I need to cut off?

How do I respond when God’s timing feels delayed or His voice feels silent?

What does this chapter teach me about obedience and trust?

Prayer

Lord, forgive me for the times I’ve let fear and desperation take the lead. Keep me rooted in Your Word and Your Spirit. Guard my heart from counterfeit voices and help me to wait patiently on You. Even when You are silent, I will trust that You are working for my good. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
