Bible Study Along: Hannah 1 Samuel Chapter 2 (Part 1)

Letting Go, Finding Peace

Scripture Focus:

1 Samuel 1 (Full Chapter)

1 Samuel 2:1–11

Theme:

True peace is found not in receiving the promise, but in trusting the Promise-Keeper. Hannah teaches us how to pray, release, and walk away with peace—even before the breakthrough comes.

Section 1: From Bitterness to Bold Prayer (1 Samuel 1:1–18)

 Key Verse:

1 Samuel 1:10 (CSB)"Deeply hurt, Hannah prayed to the Lord and wept with many tears."

Hannah's pain was real and raw. She didn’t pretend to be okay—she brought her sorrow directly to God.

Peninnah's provocation pushed Hannah into a deeper place of prayer.

Who or what in your life is pushing you into God's presence?

Section 2: Surrender and Peace (1 Samuel 1:18)

 Key Verse:

1 Samuel 1:18 (CSB)"Then Hannah went on her way; she ate and no longer looked despondent."

This is the turning point. Hannah hadn’t yet received her miracle—but she had peace.

She let go of the weight she was carrying and chose to believe that God heard her.

 Reflection Prompt:
Have you ever prayed about something and truly left it in God’s hands?
What would it look like to stop worrying and start trusting—today?

Word Study: Samuel (שְׁמוּאֵל)

Meaning: "God has heard"

Samuel’s very name is a testimony that God listens and responds to heartfelt prayers.

Section 3: The Prayer of Praise (1 Samuel 2:1–11)

Key Verse:

1 Samuel 2:2 (CSB)"There is no one holy like the Lord. There is no one besides you! And there is no rock like our God."

Hannah’s prayer is a victory song—not just for receiving a son, but for seeing God's faithfulness.

She acknowledges that God lifts up the lowly, honors the humble, and reverses circumstances.

Praise isn't just what we do after the breakthrough—it's what we release when we know God is in control.

Reflection Questions

What is one area you need to surrender to God today?

How can you walk in peace, even before the promise shows up?

Are you willing to give back to God the very thing you prayed for, like Hannah did?

How has God reversed something in your life that once looked hopeless?

Prayer Prompt

Lord, give me the courage to let go. I’ve held on to fear, disappointment, and unmet expectations for too long. Today, I choose peace. I believe You hear me, and that You are working behind the scenes. Strengthen my faith like Hannah’s—help me trust You with the things I love most. In Jesus' name, amen.

Takeaway Truth

Letting go isn’t weakness—it’s worship. Hannah didn’t wait until she held the promise to praise… she believed God had heard her, and that was enough.
