ARISE Bible Breakdown
Series: The Cost of the Call
Main Scripture: Numbers 6:1–21 (CSB)
Focus: Understanding what it means to be set apart for God and the cost of consecration.
KEY PASSAGE (Numbers 6:1–5, CSB)
“The Lord instructed Moses: 'Speak to the Israelites and tell them: When a man or woman makes a special vow, a Nazarite vow, to consecrate himself to the Lord, he is to abstain from wine and beer... He must not cut his hair throughout the time of his vow of consecration... He is to let the hair of his head grow long.'”
STUDY INSIGHT
The Nazarite vow was a voluntary commitment to live in a heightened state of separation unto God. It wasn't something forced—it was a personal “yes” to a higher standard.
This vow had three main restrictions:
No wine or anything from the grapevine – representing denial of worldly pleasures.
No cutting of hair – a visible sign of being set apart.
Avoid contact with the dead – even close family—symbolizing spiritual purity.
The vow teaches us that being set apart is costly. It involves discipline, discomfort, and denial, but it births spiritual power, intimacy with God, and divine favor.
KEY THEMES
Consecration is a choice – You don’t have to say yes, but if you do, it’s going to cost you.
Being set apart is visible – Your life should show signs of your surrender.
There is grace when you fall – Even if the vow was broken (v. 9–12), God made a way to restore the person.
REFLECTION QUESTIONS
What worldly comforts is God asking you to lay down in this season?
Is there visible evidence in your life that you belong to God?
What does “consecration” look like for you in this current season of life?
Have you treated your spiritual walk casually instead of as a sacred vow?
What areas do you need God’s mercy to restore after broken commitment?
DECLARATION
“I choose to be set apart. I will no longer live halfway. My life, my words, my habits, and my choices will reflect that I belong to God. Even when it costs me comfort, I will answer the call. I am marked by consecration, and I trust God to strengthen me as I walk in holiness.”
JOURNAL PROMPT
Write to God about the areas of your life where you feel the most tug to compromise. Ask Him to give you the strength to choose consecration over comfort. Reflect on what it means to honor your "yes" to Him.
