ARISE Bible Study-Along: Joshua 6

Welcome, ARISE family! Today, we dive into Joshua chapter 6, where we witness God’s unique strategy for victory and learn the importance of obedience and faith.

Verses 1-2: God’s Prophetic Foreshadowing

God reveals the victory to Joshua before it happens.

Reflection: Sometimes God gives us a glimpse of the victory ahead to strengthen our faith.

Verses 3-5: Precise Instructions for Victory

God provides a specific, unconventional battle plan.

Reflection: God’s ways often defy human logic. Obedience, even when it seems unusual, brings His glory.

Verses 6-16: Following the Instructions

Joshua and the Israelites obey God’s instructions exactly, marching, blowing horns, and shouting.

Reflection: Obedience to God’s word, even when it looks different from our expectations, leads to miraculous outcomes.

Verse 17: The Firstfruits Set Apart

Jericho is devoted to the Lord as the firstfruits of their conquest.

Reflection: The principle of giving God the first and best of our victories honors Him and acknowledges His provision.

Rahab’s Redemption:

Rahab, though labeled by her past, is redeemed and becomes part of the lineage of Jesus.

Reflection: God’s grace transforms our identity and future, no matter our past.

Verse 18: A Warning Against Disobedience

A clear warning not to take anything set apart for destruction.

Reflection: Obedience protects us and the community from consequences; disobedience affects everyone.

Verses 26-27: Joshua’s Prophetic Curse

Joshua pronounces a curse on whoever rebuilds Jericho, which is later fulfilled in 1 Kings 16:34.

Reflection: God’s word is faithful and true, and prophecy aligns with His sovereign plan.

Closing Reflection:
As we reflect on Joshua 6, let’s remember that God’s strategies often look different from our expectations. Obedience, faith, and honoring God with our firstfruits lead to breakthroughs and blessings.
